Join us for our next Head On Spotlight session with a successful business-to-business photographer, Chris Shain.

This session will be a must for all photographers, both established and emerging. Chris will discuss the changing landscape of the photography industry, photographers’ rights, and tackle the all-important question – Is It still possible to make money with photography?

Chris is the perfect person to entrust with these tricky subjects. He has been working on location for corporate, industrial and architectural clients for 40 years. Chris was a director of the Australian Copyright Council for 8 years and continues to work with Government lobbying on behalf of the professional photography industry.

Chris started his career in the late 1970s as an assistant to several significant Advertising and Editorial photographers and was fortunate to work alongside iconic Australian photographer David Moore as a part-time assistant over a 10-year period, David became a mentor to Chris and a major influence on his photographic and business practice  

He was the first elected president of ACMP and subsequent Chairman. He was awarded Life membership of the AIPP in 2016. He was a director of the Australian Copyright Council for 8 years until 2014 and was an integral part of a team achieving amendments to the copyright act in 1998. Chris also continues to work with the Government lobbying for Copyright and other legislative issues on behalf of the professional photography industry.

In 2005 Chris founded and has been the director of a widely recognised and successful commercial photography, video, time-lapse and aerial drone company, Images for Business.

He is widely respected within the photographic community and over the last 25 years has spoken to many photographers’ groups, both small and large around the world. He has been involved in federal Parliamentary enquiries, given evidence to Australian Law Reform Commission and Productivity Commission enquiries, and has been interviewed by the media both in Australia and Overseas.

He has work in 2 ACMP collections, quite a few APPA silver awards (AIPP Associate in 2010), has been a finalist in several Head On exhibitions (including the very first one!) and has work collected by a range of major corporate and cultural institutions.

But above all, he’s passionate about making pictures!
