Head On Photo Festival celebrates a new partnership with State Library of NSW, which will deliver the most high scale exhibition of the Portrait Prize finalists ever. Don’t miss out on your opportunity to be a part of it and submit your image now.

Head On Foundation invites photographers to submit works to the 2013 photographic portrait competition.

Prizes will be awarded for the best 3 images. The selection of images will be done anonymously based on the power of the photograph rather than the celebrity of the subject or photographer. Images can range from film to digitally produced using any photographic technique in colour and/or black & white.

Further prizes will be awarded to images selected for ‘People’s Choice’ which will be voted on by the public during the course ofthe exhibition.

Finalists’ work will be selected by a number of judges from the photo, media and entertainment industry and Head On curator Moshe Rosenzveig.

Portrait Prize finalists will have the cost of printing their work covered by Head On and Pixel Perfect.

Judges

Alan Davies
Curator of Photographs, State Library of NSW

Alan Davies has been Curator of Photographs at the State Library of New South Wales since 1989. He received a Churchill Fellowship to catalogue Australian photographs in British institutions and won the inaugural Australian Heritage Award for publications with his first book.He has produced numerous catalogues for photographic exhibitions and 6 books on aspects of Australian Photography. Not surprisingly, he is also a keen photographer.

Andrew Quilty
Photographer

Andrew Quilty divides his time between personal photographic projects for exhibition and commissions for editorial publications such as The New York Times, The International Herald Tribune, The Wall Street Journal, TIME Magazine, The Guardian Magazine, The Good Weekend and others. He has won a World Press Photo Award and a Walkley Young Australian Photojournalist of The Year Award. Quilty has been a member of the Australian Photographic Collective Oculi since 2007 and is now based in New York City.

Tegan Sadlier
Picture Editor, Good Weekend Magazine

Tegan Sadlier has been working in the photography industry for nearly 20 years, after completing an Arts Degree at the University of NSW and then a brief photography course at the Australian Centre for Photography.
She began her career as a researcher in a stock photo library and then became a picture editor at Who Magazine in 1997. In 2001 Tegan moved to New York to work at the Time Inc head office, commissioning photo shoots for Who in the US. 

In 2007 Tegan return to editorial picture editing – the job she loves and joined Fairfax Media.

Tegan is now the photo editor of Good Weekend and Sunday Life and loves the joys and challenges that come with those roles.

Moshe Rosenzveig
Head On Foundation Director

Moshe Rosenzveig is the founder and director of Head On Photo Festival, the world’s second-largest event of its kind.
His career spans over 30 years as a photojournalist, commercial photographer, educator and an award winning television producer/director whose work has been screened, published and exhibited in Australia and overseas.Moshe has judged numerous competitions including Art & About Sydney Life, the Walkleys and Train Spotting at the Powerhouse Museum.


Head On finalists will be exhibited at the State Library of NSW, Sydney 17 May – 23 June 2012.
