The Face of Indochine

When fine art photographer meets Indochina the visual outcome is an intimate, stylised study of the people and their cultural history. Indochina comprises the territories of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. Since French colonisation, in 1853 the people of Indochine have lived under imperialist masters who dictated how they would live for over 100 years. The Vietnam war once again threw this region into violent turmoil. This exhibition reflects their ability to survive war and invasion, landmines and unexploded bombs, whilst remaining surprisingly positive, philosophical and dignified. By stepping into their lives and capturing their humanity, Alison has brought back enduring images of a remarkable people.
With an $70,000 prize pool, it represents a global selection of the best work from emerging and established photographers.
