The congregation of CITIZENs, here in this show, was never premeditated. I didn’t set out to capture any of them, with the greater collection called CITIZEN in mind. They happened over time.
These images are from a broad subject of people I came across over the last fifteen years. There is no narrative, nor a place or topic, connecting these citizens.
Many encounters were random; others due more to luck of having received a commission. What connects them is that they met me and my camera – applying the same parameters in its taxonomic approach.
In CITIZEN you meet an ex prime minister, a prostitute, my wife, a nun, tribal dancers, famous actors, a now dead friend, child sex offenders… and more.
Their “label” is given due to the circumstances we met and sometimes the reason for which I was commissioned to perform, but in no way does it sum up what that person is.
