Over the past 30 years my interest in photography has lead me to travel to many destinations. Some of these trips have been short holidays most have been long travel excursions.
After one of my journey’s through South East Asia, I became acquainted with Michael Rockefeller’s collection of Asmat carvings in the Metropolitan Museum New York and was inspired to visit West Papua in 1990. This has lead to a love affair with the whole Island of New Guinea and I have now visited both Papua New Guinea and West Papua several times. I was invited to Santiago, Chile to take part in an exhibition on the painted body and had my first book published called “New Guinea Highland and Coastal Peoples”. Which can be viewed on the publisher’s website: www.cuerpospintados.com
Although a major part of this exhibition is from New Guinea I have decided not to focus on this Island but show an eclectic look at some of the people I have photographed in around the world. People’s faces especially from different ethnic backgrounds have always fascinated me and I believe there is a wealth of stories in a face. Expressions change from moment to moment and I aim to capture a small but telling window into these peoples lives.
