Dara Kretschmer has been studying the themes of permanence and impermanence through photography for several years. These photographs, taken in New Zealand, exemplify these themes: these mobile homes were made to be mobile, but most of these haven’t moved for years and have, in fact, been converted into permanent structures by having bits – verandahs and other attachments – added to them. Each shot evokes a tale of its own: some are whimsical and playful, some suggest a darker story. The sense of abandonment these images convey adds a faint sense of threat as if something has happened that is not explained.
