Beauty in the Beast – Photographic portraits of animals.
“In a world older and more complete than ours, they move finished and complete, gifted with the extension of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear. They are not brethren, they are not underlings: they are other nations…”
Gary Steer was inspired by these words of American novelist and naturalist, Henry Beston in his book, The Outermost House. He set out to take portraits of these “other nations”, some of the world’s natural creatures. He wanted to show their intrinsic beauty, to capture their character, even the personality of some of them, and to present them with dignity.
