Facing Bate Bay: A Portrait of Cronulla 2012

In this series, photographer Sean Izzard aims to reveal the face of Cronulla.
Against plain backdrops provided by Cronulla pavilion walls, a cross-section of inhabitants are depicted. The starkness of the imagery allows the person as hero, though these are not happy-snaps, rather a study of the being that is left once the smile for the camera has gone.
As an aside, these photographs also offer an insight into current enthnography, demography and fashion trends, becoming at once, artful portraits and an anthropological study of a place in time.
With an $70,000 prize pool, it represents a global selection of the best work from emerging and established photographers.
