Explore creating photos in darkness, using a simple hand-torch to light your subjects. Night Photo Magic will involve using both the theatrette and gardens to take photos.
Starting in the theatrette, Peter will give a presentation of his work and then spend time running through your equipment, doing exercises that include focus and manual settings on cameras, to lighting wildflowers in a darkened room. You will then move onto a night walk around the gardens and discuss possible subjects, followed by a series of shoots around the grounds, working in small groups or pairs.
Peter is regarded as an Australian pioneer in the art of light-painting and has held numerous exhibitions over the past few years, including at Customs House in Circular Quay and at the Hazelhurst Community Gallery in February 2010. Also in 2010 Peter was awarded the prestigious NSW Parliamentary Plein Air Photographic Prize, for one of his night-time images.
Peter’s work is held in many public and private collections, including the National Library Canberra, State Library of NSW, Museum of Sydney and the NSW Parliament collection. A photographer for over 35 years, Peter has undertaken numerous literary, exhibition and other creative projects and has achieved many accolades for his work.
For this workshop you will need to bring a torch, a digital SLR camera (with capacity to do 30 second exposures), fully charged camera battery, tripod and sturdy footwear.
