In 2013, in the midst of economic and political turbulence, 21 of Greece’s most talented emerging photographers attended an intensive workshop organised by the Photography Centre of Thessaloniki.  It was held in the small village of Lafkos with young Danish photographer Jacob Aue Sobol from Magnum Photos.  Sobol set them the assignment to photograph their home in a place they had never been: to interrogate the meaning of ‘home’ and its emotional, psychological and physical layers.  For five days, they photographed the entire village – the people, the streets, the animals, each other – and crafted their visions of ‘home’.

Selected by Sobol with editor Sun Hee Engelstoft, Home features over 50 photographs arising from this workshop. Together they offer a moving, complex and personal insight into Greek culture today.

Following its exhibition at the Photography Centre of Thessaloniki in February, Delmar Gallery and Head On Photo Festival 2015 are delighted to bring this compelling collection of contemporary Greek photography to Australia.

“Home is a place of memories. It is where we have our roots. It is a place we keep returning to. If we want to learn more about ourselves and the world we live in, this is where we look.” – Jacob Aue Sobol
