A study of the elements.
In classic thought, the four elements – earth, water, air and fire – were fundamental to understanding everything. Similarly this series of photographs comes to life through the infinite interplay of these elements, the more fired up they are – the stronger the wind, the brighter the sun, the darker the clouds – the more dramatic the imagery.

Amidst the random chaos, I search for some semblance of symmetry, a way to tame these elements, bring them under my control, calm and frame them. The one consistent feature throughout the series is the horizon, it provides a stable, consistent point of focus throughout.

Ironically the horizon does not exist physically, it’s merely the point where we perceive these elements meeting. It intrigues me that I’m photographing infinite nothingness and yet it holds such beauty. This nothingness is then cleansed with a lick of black and the cycle starts again at the first sign of light. I’ve been there to watch it, walking the cliffs before sunrise whenever I can since early 2014. You never know what tomorrow will bring.
