In 1950, a profoundly significant and destabilising event took place on the ‘roof of the world’, which forever changed the lives of millions of people. It caused many to clandestinely leave their homes and land and relocate to other countries worldwide. Living in Exile was inspired by two trips to Tibet, where I forged heart-warming connections with the Tibetan people. With a new understanding of the extreme repression and loss of personal liberties the Tibetan people have faced since the invasion of their country by the Chinese Communist Party, I have been haunted by the injustice of their situation. This has compelled me to advocate for the hundreds of thousands of Tibetans in exile who have fled CCP oppression in the search for freedom by eliciting compassion and understanding through their stories. Exposing their rich culture through provocative images, illuminating the myriad of individuals and family groups that have relocated to Perth, Western Australia.
