Diana Nicholette Jeon. The quirky and unpredictable nature of dreams and memories.

‘Nights as Inexorable as the Sea’ considers the quirky and unpredictable nature of dreams and memories. Asleep – existing in that liminal space – situations confront me that I can’t quite explain, often fraught with absurdities and illogical occurrences. I’ve always been amazed when friends recount intricate details and entire storylines of their dreams while mine remain in shards – minute fragments of what was. Was it a dream, or was it a previously forgotten memory seeping through to my conscious mind? Due to the ephemeral nature of both memory and dreams, these images are in tins – to simulate the memory boxes in which people store their family photographs and mementos.

Diana Nicholette Jeon was awarded her MFA in Imaging and Digital Art from the University of Maryland in Baltimore County. Jeon’s work has been exhibited extensively in the United States, Canada, and Europe; including at the Museo di Arte Moderna e Contemporanea (Rovereto), the Griffin Museum, the Honolulu Museum of Art, the Hawaii State Art Museum, Soho Photo (NYC), Gallery MCC (Paris), PH21 (Budapest) and Tethys Gallery(Firenze). She has won multiple awards, including the Hawaii SFCA Purchase Award, the International Photo Awards, the 11th Julia Margaret Cameron Award, the Pollux Award, and the Mobile Photo Award. Jeon’s art has been featured in a wide array of publications.
