Discovering Country – A Sense of Place is a celebration of identity and landscape; a photographic exhibition curated by photographers Murray Vanderveer and René Vogelzang and presented by The Rocks Discovery Museum, Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority. Discovering Country – A Sense of place explores the unique relationship of Aboriginal identity to landscape and the traditional stories that are associated with a specific place. The photographers’ interpretation of the landscape is inspired by these stories as the images highlight the depth of Aboriginal cultural bonds with Country. A Sense of place also documents the passage of time and progress across Sydney Harbour. A collection of large panoramic prints captures areas of Sydney Harbour that are in the process of dramatic change, as the harbour foreshores evolve from a working harbour to a wider variety of use and amenity.
