A photographic exhibition exploring the mythic dimension of the urban environment The inspiration for this work stems from a deep fascination with the symbolic language of myth, dream and alchemy. A rich mythic vocabulary of symbolic imagery making possible a dialogue by which we can deepen our connectedness to ourselves, others, the world, and the universe; ultimately giving substance and meaning to this glimmer of existence we call life.
A sense that there is something more or beyond, something mysterious that relates our small human world of experiences with a larger reality. With camera as my mind’s eye I found myself immersed within a labyrinth of laneways, junk yards and car parks. Like a child longing for magic, I wandered through this timeless space wanting for a sign to appear.
A slender thread, or crack, an opening through which that ‘tremendous fascinating mystery’ (mysterium tremendum et fascinans); that dimension of mystery by which we are all confronted, which pervades all our life experiences and transcends all things would reveal itself in my Urban Dreaming.
