Kutho series : nun girl

Photographer's Name
Andrea Alkalay

Kutho, inspired by a Burmese concept of merit, is carried out by male Buddhists in a ritual involving covering relics with gold leaves. Women, in the guise of an impure status, are forbidden to approach. Religion and spirituality are two sides of the same coin that sometimes play antagonistic roles, and I think that liberation of the soul is an endless work in progress. This portrait is part of a series on the power associated with religion.
