Waves of immigrants came to rescue the dying industries of England's north. Indian cotton was woven into goods that were sold back to India – an irony that remains carved into the cultural memory of the descendants of rural Indian weavers. Nowadays, these former factory workers use their ingenuity to prop up a fragile local economy.
